Gaston Bouchard, sentenced to 20 years in a penal colony, escapes and meets Marcel Valmont on the train. He notices a ticket to South America and a large sum of money in cash in the young man's bag. He offers to take him around town while waiting for the ship to sail. When they arrive at the station, Gaston asks Marcel to wait for him at the bar while he sneaks out of the train to avoid the police. He then introduces his girlfriend Georgette as his sister, planning to steal Marcel's money. Georgette and Marcel fall in love and she tries to protect him from Gaston. He follows her to the cabaret where she sings. Gaston steals his money and passport. Marcel reveals that he robbed the bank where he works earlier that day. The theft will not be discovered until the next day and he would like to put it back in the safe in time. Georgette's friend Fanny calls the Police but they arrive too late to catch Gaston and they arrest Marcel for failing to show a passport.

This drama's main asset is Charles Boyer as Pierre, a father out looking for his son one night. Pierre receives a call from a woman who says she will kill herself because of his son. Naturally disturbed at this news, Pierre takes off to find his son and avert disaster. Along the way, he picks up a malcontent, wealthy young woman who decides to stick with him and help him look for his son. After traveling through some of the worst aspects of Paris' demi-monde, Pierre begins to wonder if his son will ever be found. Meanwhile, the relationship with his newfound wealthy friend is heating up.

Five people are gathered in a cafe because of a phone call they have all received. The plot thickens when they discover a dead body in a bedroom upstairs.

Jacques Montet, a successful crime story writer, has already written a hundred books and would like to call it quits now to devote himself to loftier writing. But his wife, a cold-hearted, money-minded, bossy woman won't allow. All the more as she is the one who supplies Jacques with the plots of his detective stories. When Jacques, yearning for true love, meets young, pretty Muriel, he can't stand the situation any longer.
